Perth Solar City

Perth is going to get a series of solar city initiatives with the first being the installation of 162,000 solar panels that will generate 73,000 kilowatts hours per year at The Central Institute of Technology in Northbridge.

One of the benefits of the installation is that it will be used to train technicians in how to install PV panels to the main grid.
Ultimately there will be five solar energy installation projects which will produce a combined output of 860,000 kilowatt hours of power per annum. The other projects are slated for Perth Zoo, Perth Arena, Kings Park and the Midland Railway Workshop.

The cost of the project is estimated to be worth $85 million over 5 years.

Gravity Discovery Centre to Close

The Gravity Discovery Centre near Gingin in Western Australia is set to close due to government funding cuts. This is most unfortunate as it does not bode well for the significance placed on science & technology by the state government.

Hallucinogens & Psychedelics - Making a come back

From this New York Times Article, "Scientists are taking a new look at hallucinogens, which became taboo among regulators after enthusiasts like Timothy Leary promoted them in the 1960s with the slogan 'Turn on, tune in, drop out.' Now, using rigorous protocols and safeguards, scientists have won permission to study once again the drugs' potential for treating mental problems and illuminating the nature of consciousness."

The Hallucinogen of choice for these researchers is psilocybin, the psychoactive ingredient found in magic mushrooms.

Mushrooms containing the active ingredient, psilocybin, grow wild in Balingup, Western Australia.

You can make a difference so don't wait for the politician's to make decisions. Their decisions are usually too little too late costing far too much and often heavily influenced by vested political interests.
